What Day is It?

In case you are under the mistaken impression that life is all fun and games, today Sparkle had a meltdown this morning over her journal. I require that she draw a picture, write a few words to go with it, and add the date. It's nothing elaborate. She has complete creative control over the picture and words. However, I do require that the date be correct.

However, Sparkle has a bad habit of looking at the date of her previous entry when writing the date for the current entry. The sad result is that on Mondays she often writes the date of the previous Saturday (which is the day after her last entry on the previous Friday). It was even worse today, because the month changed over the weekend. So, instead of writing February 2, 2009; she wrote January 31. So, when I asked her to correct the date, she had two things to fix (the month, and the day) and it overwhelmed her. Sigh. I've had a special calendar in the kitchen with giant numbers just for her for over a year now, and she's been able to read it proficiently for months now, yet she still has moments when she just doesn't get it.
