Cups

We have three basic sets of cups in the house for everyday use.

Here are our water cups. I got tired of having the girls constantly get new cups whenever they were thirsty, so I instituted the water cup rule. Each of us has her own water cup, and these cups are for water only, so they stay on the kitchen cart and are reused throughout the day. These cups are metal, so they can take a beating. Wander doesn't have water cup because when he got them, there were only three cups. I do wash them at the end of the day. At two, Glitter is barely tall enough to reach her cup, but she manages on her own quite well.

Here is a sample of the cups we use at mealtimes (when milk, juice, and the occasional soda are served). Before we got the metal cups, these were also our water cups. These cups have lots of practical features. These cups are plastic, so they aren't as breakable as glass. They are translucent, so you can easily see at a glance how full they are. They stack nicely, so they don't take much storage space. They are all different colors, so when the girls' little friends come, I can tell them to remember the color of their cup. They come in different sizes. The cups normally live in the cupboard; I just took a few of them out for the picture.

Sippy cups are primarily for use in Glitter's preschool lunch and at playgroup, or when I want the girls to have water in the car. When these cups get lost or worn out, I have two more sippy cups stashed away. When those two cups go, that will be the end of sippy cups for our household.

We do have other cups in the house, but we rarely use them. Glass cups just aren't practical, as five-year-old Sparkle has to use a step ladder to get the cups when setting the table.
